Getting the Process Started
What to Expect at Your Initial Landscape Consultation
A successful landscape starts with understanding the property—and the people who live there. Your initial consultation with McCabe’s Landscape is our opportunity to see your space firsthand, hear what you would like to change, and begin talking through the possibilities for your home.
During the appointment, we’ll walk the property with you and talk about what is working, what isn’t, and how you would like to use your outdoor space. Maybe you already have a detailed vision in mind. Maybe you know you want a better place to entertain, more privacy, less maintenance, a pool, a garden, or simply a yard that finally feels finished. You do not need to have every detail figured out before we arrive. That is part of what the consultation is for.
We Start With Your Property
Every property has its own opportunities and limitations. During our visit, we look at the existing landscape, the layout of the space, sun exposure, existing features and other site conditions that may influence the design. We also consider the architecture and character of your home so the finished landscape feels like it belongs there—not like a collection of unrelated features added over time.
This firsthand look gives us a much better understanding of what can be accomplished and helps us begin identifying practical design solutions for the space.
We Talk About How You Want to Live Outside
Good landscape design is about much more than choosing plants or deciding where to put a patio. We want to understand how you envision using the space.
We’ll talk about your priorities, your style, your must-haves and the problems you would like the new landscape to solve. This is also the time to discuss features you may be considering, such as outdoor living and entertaining areas, planting and gardens, hardscape, shade structures, fire features, water features, pools, lighting or other elements that may become part of the overall design.
Budget is part of that conversation as well. Having an open discussion about priorities and investment helps us guide the project in a direction that makes sense before design work begins.
You Don’t Need to Have All the Answers
One of the most common misconceptions about a landscape consultation is that homeowners need to know exactly what they want before meeting with a designer or contractor. You don’t.
Bring us your ideas, questions, inspiration and even the things you are unsure about. Our job is to listen, ask the right questions and help you understand the options available for your property.
Sometimes the most important part of an initial consultation is simply gaining clarity about what is possible.
From Consultation to Custom Landscape Design
If McCabe’s is a good fit for your project, the consultation becomes the foundation for the next step in our landscape design and construction process.
Our in-house design team takes what we learn about your property, preferences and priorities and develops a custom landscape plan around them. Through the design process, you will have an opportunity to explore style, materials, plants and individual features in greater detail and ultimately visualize how the different pieces of your landscape work together before construction begins.
Because our team handles both landscape design and construction, we are thinking about more than how a space will look. We are also considering how it will function, how it will be built and how the finished landscape will work for your home over time.
A Better Landscape Begins With a Good Conversation
For more than two decades, McCabe’s Landscape has been designing and building custom outdoor spaces for homeowners throughout the Temecula Valley and Southern California. Our process is personal by design. We believe homeowners should understand their options, feel comfortable asking questions and have confidence in the decisions they make about their property.
The initial consultation is where that process begins.
If you are considering a new landscape, backyard renovation, front yard redesign, pool or complete outdoor living space, schedule an initial consultation with McCabe’s Landscape and let’s start talking about what your property could become.
